Tourism week completes month of august in Slovenian Digital Center

Tourism was the most affected industry because of the pandemic. The UNWTO report shows that in 2020 tourism income lost 2,4 billion $ in comparison with 2019. This year’s predictions are to lose 4 billion $ more. The prediction is based on the indirect impact of the pandemic on tourism and its multiplicative impact on tourism connected sectors.

On the other hand, the recovery offers an opportunity for a new, different start that will be based on sustainable approaches. Everyone aims to lower the negative impact of tourism on the environment and to raise the quality of life of the local residents. We want to use as less resources as possible and with that to bring many benefits. These goals require the development of innovations and new technologies and the empowerment of the tourism ecosystem.

Tourism will be supported also by The Instrument for recovery »NextGenerationEU«, which gives Slovenia the opportunity to use 2,1 billion EUR irreversible resources for the COVID-19 recovery. The purpose is to support the green and digital transformation.

The leaders of the EU member states have made an agreement about the Multiannual financial instrument for the period 2021 – 2027 and the Instrument for the recovery – available: HERE.

Tourism 4.0 puts the quality of life of the local residents in the centre and builds the whole ecosystem around them. With the digital innovations and new technologies, we are changing the perception of tourism and the business sector around it. Tourism 4.0 will support sustainable growth and will be connecting with various stakeholders in the future. More about Tourism 4.0: HERE

During Slovenia’s presidency of the Council of the EU, we are organizing a week dedicated to  Tourism Week. The event will take place between 24/8/2021 and 26/8/2021 in the Digital Centre of Slovenia.

The emphasis will be on :

  • Tourism 4.0 Innovations,
  • the empowerment of the tourism ecosystem with new knowledge and skills,
  • the future technologies and in connecting various stakeholders and exchanging best practices from the national and international areas.

Tourism Week is a result of a joint effort of many tourism stakeholders, technology and non-technology partners, amongst them Arctur d.o.o., Center of Business Excellence at the School of Business and Economics in Ljubljana – SRIPT lead org., Technology park Ljubljana, Faculty of Tourism Studies – Turistica, Faculty of Tourism Brežice, Rajzefiber.

On Tuesday, 24. 8. 2021, we will be oriented on Tourism 4.0. Company Arctur d.o.o. is the initiator and the lead partner of Tourism 4.0. We are organizing the first day of the conference, named Following the steps of the Tourism 4.0 innovations. The activities will be interactive, focusing on the best examples from the real sector. Which is the main goal of the technological products and solutions of Tourism 4.0, to have a positive impact on the quality of life of the local residents.

The first activity of the day will be presenting Tourism 4.0 products, which will be followed by presenting tourism destinations that digitised their cultural heritage in the last year and enriched their local tourist offer. Some of them (e.g. VR headsets) will be offered to be used and tested by the visitors of the conference. The first part of the day will be concluded with the round table, where we will host numerous guests, experts from the tourism and connected sectors. The topics will be the future of tourism, plans for recovery as we wish to start different tourism that will be based on sustainable and green models, usage of innovative products, that are the result of the Slovenian knowledge, implementing best practices from abroad and the importance of connecting the key stakeholders. We would like to engage the guests of the conference to share their ideas and comments as we all feel and live tourism.

The afternoon will be dedicated to collective brands in the tourism, as they are key to the recognition, the growth and ensure the quality of the tourist offer.
